One of our favourite wedding trends to emerge in recent years is that of dressing bridesmaids in white for the big day. It may go against tradition, but it suits all sorts of wedding themes from minimalist chic to fun and bohemian – plus some of our favourite celebs are fans! Here are some tips on how to dress your bridesmaids in white…

One of the reasons that people worry about dressing their bridesmaids in ivory or white is that they might look too much like the bride. Solve this problem by choosing a very different style for your maids; their dresses could be shorter cocktail styles if you’re wearing full-length, or slinkier cuts if you’ve chosen a voluminous ballgown. Both Kim Kardashian and Kate Middleton got this down to a tee – although the bridesmaids all looked fabulous (who could forget Pippa Middleton in THAT dress?), there was no mistaking who the bride was in the party.
Two of our favourite recent bridesmaid trends are mix and match and all-white gowns – so why not combine the two for a truly chic wedding? One of the best things about choosing white as your bridesmaid colour is that you don’t have to worry about matching the shades exactly. Instead, just tell your bridesmaids to pick a white dress that flatters their figure, and you’ll have an instantly stylish bridal party – just like Solange Knowles did for her big day. This works particularly well if your bridesmaids’ dresses are all roughly the same fabric, like lace.

As with your own bouquet, dressing your bridesmaids in white gives you plenty of creative freedom when it comes to the flowers, as you won’t have to consider clashing colours. You could go for an all-white theme and give your girls sleek calla lillies or romantic roses, or choose something soft like a pastel blush or pale blue bouquet. Statement brights also look incredible when popping against an ivory background, so take advantage of this by giving your maids block colour bouquets in different shades, or even a bundle of brightly-coloured wildflowers. Or, you could ditch the flowers altogether – foliage like eucalyptus and olive leaves look beautifully bohemian when paired with white dresses. Don’t forget floral crowns for that extra boho touch.
Why not totally switch things up, and wear a coloured dress while your maids wear white? This is a fantastic way to show off your personality, and to make doubly sure that you don’t blend in too much with your all-white bridal party.
