Zingy & Zesty: Summer Citrus Wedding Ideas

July 25, 2016

Whether you are planning a wedding abroad or a big day in the height of the British summer, a zesty colour scheme will be a fun and vibrant style that your guests won’t be expecting. Mix vibrant yellow tones with bright oranges and lime greens if you are feeling really bold – or pick one citrus tone if you prefer a more uniform look.

Start your wedding as you mean to go on by sending your guests tropical style wedding invitations. Add some splashes of vibrant yellow for a hint of what is to come or if you want to show off your wedding theme right from the beginning then be bold with a fun lemon and lime stationery theme. You can then add some extra colour and style by picking bright envelope liners to given a polished finish to your wedding stationery.

Citrus bridesmaid dresses can be a challenge for a lot of skin tones but that doesn’t mean you won’t find the perfect gowns! There’s a citrus shade to suit most skin tones so if you are feeling unsure then have your bridesmaids try on a variety of shades and tones so you can find the one that works best.

If you want to add an extra pop of colour to your bridesmaids’ style or for your own bridal look then the Delicate Sunshine Collection from Glitzy Secrets is full of gorgeous designs. Wear some statement earrings or wear a simple bridal necklace for a splash of citrus.

Complement your bridesmaids by choosing citrus-inspired wedding flowers – this doesn’t mean you have to walk down the aisle carrying a bag of lemons! Speak to your florist about which vibrant yellow, orange and pink flowers will be in season for your wedding and create a mix of citrus shades.

You can also create some stunning DIY wedding centrepieces using fresh lemons and glass jars for an inexpensive and unique centrepiece. Keep the lemons whole and layer into tall cylinder vases. Or for something a bit more quirky, use sliced lemons in mason jars and add just a couple of fresh flowers per vase. Oversized balloons are another way you can add some citrus style to your décor and they will also be perfect for creating fun summer wedding pictures.

Continue your citrus theme right through to your menu – old fashioned lemonade will be a refreshing post-ceremony drink and can be a perfect retro addition if you serve in mason jars. Or serve citrus flavoured cocktails in champagne glasses for a more elegant style.

You can then finish your menu with a citrus inspired dessert – speak to your caterer and see what options are available to you – consider a zesty lime torte or give a traditional dessert like Crème Brule a twist with a splash of lemon.
