I love this time of year – Christmas in on the horizon, the air starts to feel crisp and cool and, of course, there are bonfire parties to go to! It doesn’t matter how old you get, there’s always something magical about sparklers and rockets so it’s not surprising that bonfires and fireworks are very popular for weddings. So, let’s get seasonal and take a look at some fab bonfire wedding ideas that will make your day go with a bang…
Firstly, if you feel that fireworks and bonfires need to be a part of your wedding day, make sure you choose a venue that allows them. Check out any restrictions on times and locations and certainly ask if your chosen location works with any recommended suppliers. This is definitely an area that needs professional expertise!

Obviously, an after-dark firework display is going to be a fitting finish to your fabulous day but there are plenty of other ways that you can bring in the bonfire party feel to your wedding without sacrificing the glamour! Starting with your dress, how about going for a beautifully embellished glittering gown? Your maids could wear mix and match sequined dresses or you could simply add a sparkling cardigan to your outfit if you’re heading outside. Don’t forget shimmering shoes and plenty of jewels!
For your flowers, speak to your florist to see what blooms will look best – you could either opt for seasonal varieties that are all about autumn, classic roses or something entirely different that gives the shape of exploding fireworks or flying rockets. As for colours, you can opt for anything you like. You could also hire some sequined table linen to bring even more sparkle to your reception!
Warming food is definitely needed at a bonfire party so make sure there are plenty of tasty treats for hungry guests. Bangers and mash would be an obvious choice but anything hearty and filling seems appropriate. Food trucks would be another fun option or how about mini bowls of gourmet mac ‘n’ cheese or chilli?
Another food we always associate with bonfire parties is definitely the marshmallow! If you’re having a bonfire, how about letting guests toast their own over the flames or set up a S’mores Station where they can create the ultimate firework food? Don’t forget drinks and if you’re going to be outside after dark, think warmth! Hot apple cider, mulled cocktails or super luxurious hot chocolates would be absolutely perfect.
There’s also no reason why your cake should be left out of the firework fun. Light the sparklers before you cut your cake, dress up cupcakes with mini metallic pom poms or use golden glitter on white icing for the most fabulous effect.

Bonfires and fireworks are all about lighting up the dark so use lighting cleverly throughout your day to continue the theme. Light the way to the outside area with strings of fairylights or lanterns and then wrap tree trunks in more lights or suspend them between branches to create your own outside venue. Don’t forget to leave out blankets or wraps so guests can keep warm as the temperature drops. Inside, create hanging installations with balls of wire with interwoven fairylights and hang above tables so guests are dining under exploding ‘fireworks’!
Being surrounded by your friends and family when you have your first dance or leave your party is always wonderful by why not make it extra special with sparklers? You can buy extra long length sparklers so you’ll have plenty of time to take to the dancefloor or say your goodbyes as your guests provide a sparkling backdrop to a truly memorable wedding day.
