Romantic Decor for Your Top Table

January 11, 2017

When you are planning your reception tables, don’t forget to add a few extra special touches to your top table – particularly if you are going against tradition and opting for a round top table. You want your table at the wedding to stand out from the rest so don’t be afraid to really go for it with your décor.

Take a look at some of our favourite ways to make your top table stand out from the crowd.

Sequin Table Cloths

Shimmering sequin table cloths can really make a table feel extra special. At my own wedding we had sequin table runners on each of the reception tables so to make our round top table look different from the rest we chose to have a full sequin table cloth. We also repeated this for our cake table and it really made those key areas at the reception stand out.

Table Bunting

Rustic and vintage style brides will love this idea! Table bunting that says Mr & Mrs, Just Married - or any other phrase of your choice – will look great against a traditional rectangular top table and will definitely mean your guests know which table you will be sitting at.

Over the Top Flowers

If you are having floral centrepieces then make sure you keep a bit of your budget back to make your top table arrangement even more beautiful. Rows of bouquets will look stunning in vases side by side and the low arrangement style means they won’t block your view. Or speak to your florist about creating a show stopping single centrepiece that will sit beautifully in the centre of your table.

Glowing Candles

Candles are an inexpensive and simple way to make your table look extra special. If your main reception tables have tea lights then swap these for pillar candles when it comes to your top table, they will give an extra glow and ensure your top table is the main focal point.

Top Table Letters

Simple letters that spell Mr & Mrs will look great as part of your table centrepiece and will be a perfect photo opportunity for your wedding photographer to capture. If you love the idea of letters but want something even more standout then swap smaller table letters for giant standalone letters that can sit behind your top table for everyone to see.

Chair Signs

Make sure your wedding chairs are extra special by hanging pretty signs on them – at my own wedding we had gorgeous rose gold bride and groom signs created by Pudding Bridge for Not on the Highstreet. I also love the more rustic wooden signs that would look great at an autumn wedding.

Top Tips for Creating the Perfect Top Table

  • Choose décor that matches your wedding style but just has that bit more oomph than the other tables
  • Add some little details – special wedding favours or place cards can make your top table feel unique
  • Don’t go overboard – you want your table to feel special but you don’t want it to feel cluttered
  • Ensure any centrepieces that sit directly in front of you are low so you can still see your guests and get some great photos
