Firstly, let’s look at colours and bright is definitely the way forward here. I’m a big fan of the cherry red and bright blue combination for this theme so I’d certainly suggest using this classic pairing as the base for your colour palette. It’s a vibrant look that gives you lots of scope for decorations and details so embrace these vivid hues and have some fun!
Let’s start with your dress and almost any option is open to you here. A shorter, Fifties style gown with a big skirt obviously looks amazing with a vintage fairground vibe or you can choose a more traditional style gown and use it as a fabulous juxtaposition to the relaxed atmosphere. I would caution against super high heels on the grass however so have a pair of flats to hand to change into after your ceremony before the games begin. Choose your accessories to compliment your personal style and don’t forget a red nose for some fun photographs!
For your flowers, stay with those bright colours and go for big, blowsy blooms because the fair is all about exuberance after all! Have some fun and add a creative touch with additional materials so streaming ribbons, pinwheels and even rolls of fairground tickets make fabulous props for your displays. Bunting and signs are a must have too and if you’re making your own signs and stationery, hunt around online for a font that reminds you of the swirling script you see painted on fairground rides.

Talking about rides, there are plenty of entertainment options for your fairground wedding. Obviously, hiring in a carousel or helter-skelter would be absolutely fantastic but if your budget or venue doesn’t allow, then why not set up your own stalls and sideshows? Hook-a-Duck, coconut shies, hoopla and lucky dips are easy to arrange and your guests will love the opportunity to try and win a prize!
For your food and drink, take your inspiration from the best nostalgic fairground treats. Hot dogs and ice creams, served from vans, will be super popular and don’t forget the candy floss and popcorn too. An American style lemonade stand could be a great option or set up a drinks table full of liquid refreshment for your lucky guests. Once the drinks reception is over, redress the table and fill it with desserts and colour outsize lollipops make tasty favours.
You really need a photobooth at a funfair wedding so set up a colourful backdrop and stock up on props so that everyone can really enter into the spirit of things. I also love the guest books that mimic the old-fashioned penny-drop games – your nearest and dearest write their notes to you on little wooden hearts that are then dropped into a frame to make a unique display. What a great memento of a once-in-a-lifetime occasion!
