Summer is without a doubt the most popular season to say, ‘I Do’ and this is largely down to the glorious weather that this time of year offers. However, the sizzling heat can also cause chaos if you’re not careful! So, if you’re dreaming of a destination wedding in an exotic location or a UK soirée in the sunshine, discover our favourite ways that you can beat the heat!
Keeping your guests cool and comfortable should be absolutely key at your summer wedding and it should certainly be at the top of your priority list - you want them to enjoy celebrating with you, after all. Ensure that your guests stay refreshed by creating a DIY hydration station. You can fill glass dispensers with a variety of delicious drinks, including zesty lemonade, flavoured water and fruity cocktails. Get ultra-creative with your drink station by styling it to suit your wedding day style. For instance, if you’re planning a tropical wedding theme, serve your drinks with flamingo straws and mini umbrellas. Love the thought of a rustic wedding? Opt for mason jars wrapped with hessian material and twine ribbon.

An ice-cream van is a fabulously fun way to make sure that both you and your guests (of all ages) stay cool throughout your special day. We suggest serving it after the ceremony while everyone is outside mingling, or after the wedding breakfast as a tasty dessert option in the evening sunshine. The choice is yours!
Help keep your guests cool by stocking a wicker basket or wooden crate with the sunshine essentials, including sun cream, bug spray and bottles of water. They will love the gesture and it can easily replace traditional wedding favours. Sun cream is incredibly important, particularly if you’re having an outdoor ceremony where guests will be exposed to the rays for a long time. You could also provide your guests with hats, fans, umbrellas and sunglasses. This will help to shade everyone from the sweltering sunshine! You can place the baskets at the entrance of your wedding venue with a little sign indicating that your guests can help themselves!

If you’re wondering how to stay cool in your wedding dress, we recommend choosing a gown that features lighter fabric. Avoid fabric such as satin and instead opt for a gown made using tulle, silk or chiffon. It may also be worth wearing your hair in an elegant bridal up-do – you would be surprised how much of a difference this makes when the sun is beating down on you! Why not carry a super pretty bridal fan? You could personalise it with your initials and wedding date so that it’s something to treasure after the big day. Not only is it practical, it can easily be an aisle style statement!
We’ve got our fingers crossed that the sun keeps shining for you!
