Now fans might not be the first thing that spring to mind when you start planning your wedding theme or decorations for the big day but they should be. Fans are delicate, beautiful and rather decadent. Depending on the shapes and style of the fan, they can be playful or full of Art Deco charm. Here are some beautiful fan details for a glamorous wedding. They might just set your heart aflutter…

It’s surprisingly easy to include fan details in your wedding day outfit. Our love of 1920s styling and vintage design has inspired so many wedding dress collections that you’re going to be spoiled for choice. From scalloped hems to swirling embellishments, you’ll find fan details aplenty of many wedding dresses. Bridal shoes from the likes of Emmy and Rachel Simpson also include Art Deco inspired curlicues and they are perfect for a stylish celebration.
Of course, we LOVE jewellery and you’ll find plenty of gorgeous pieces in our Art Deco wedding collection. Our Deco Dream earrings are incredibly popular and with good reason in our opinion! Similarly, the matching Glamour of Deco earrings and pendant are, if you’ll excuse the pun, fan-tastic (sorry, couldn’t resist!).
You could also carry a fan instead of a floral bouquet. If you’re planning a destination wedding, this could actually be a beautiful and practical idea. From feathery fans to the more familiar folding paper fans, you can take your pick and opt for a fan that works really well for your wedding.
Fans are also perfect for lots of other areas of your wedding, especially wedding stationery. Delicate, laser-cut wedding invitations with fan motifs will really set the scene for your wedding from the moment they arrive with your guests. Carry this theme through to your wedding day stationery with exquisite programs, menus and more.
Of course, your wedding stationery can be provided by designers and makers but fans also lend themselves rather wonderfully to a little bit of DIY. There are plenty of tutorials online that will help you make some really fabulous fan details. Paddle fans are probably the easiest design to manage on your own but there’s absolutely nothing to stop you being more adventurous!

You could also use fans as wedding favours. Obviously, a basket full of pretty fans set out for guests on a warm day will be very much appreciated. If you buy in bulk online, they really are a very cost-effective favour. Another great fan favour has to be prettily decorated biscuits. Again, find a simple recipe to make the cookies in bulk and then practice your icing skills to make them perfect!
For a more playful look, pinwheel style fans are definitely the ideal addition to your wedding day. You can now buy large paper pinwheel fans in every colour and size from retailers such as John Lewis or Not On The High Street. These are a great, flexible addition to your wedding decorations. Attached to walls, they form a brilliant backdrop to top tables or cake tables or strung or hung, they’re the perfect alternative to bunting or more typical garlands. If you opt for pinwheels, mini versions are great for buttonholes or even as badges for flower girls and pageboys.
So, as you can see, fans really are made for weddings and, with a little creative thought, there’s no end to the ways in which you can make them part of your wedding.
