Now I don’t know about you but I simply adored being a bridesmaid when I was younger. Pretty shoes, a flower crown and a posy of flowers to carry made me feel like a princess for the day but there’s no doubting the fact that the highlight was the dress. I was a complete tomboy too so I imagine that the delight of wearing a beautiful flower girl’s dress is indeed universal. So, if you’re preparing to ask your mini maids to accompany you down the aisle or if you’re still to choose the perfect gown for them, then enjoy this look at some of the most adorable flower girl dresses you’re ever likely to see…

Thanks to our current love of tulle, flower girls everywhere are able to indulge their big skirt/ballerina fantasies with beautiful multi-layered skirts. I love these with simple ballet style tops and shoes or with big bows that cascade down the backs of the skirts. The tulle skirt certainly looks amazing in classic neutral shades but it’s also absolutely brilliant in bold colours or charming pastels. Depending on the style of your wedding, you can add boho details such as headbands and flower crowns, elegant accessories or fun details such as floral wands.
If your wedding isn’t a high summer affair but you still love tulle then don’t worry, let me assure you that these skirts look fantastic peeping out from underneath warming cardigans or super snug winter coats. In fact, I really can’t think of an occasion when tulle doesn’t work…
Other popular looks that have made their way into flower girl fashions are metallic and glitters. Let’s be honest, what little girl isn’t going to love a gold or silver sparkly dress? There’s no such thing as too much sparkle, especially when you’re less than ten so really go to town for extra cuteness.

The mismatch look always works really well for flower girls so why not choose a style and then let the little ones wear a colour they like or let them have a completely free choice in what they wear? Bring the girls together with coordinating flowers and accessories but you never know, you might be averting any potential tantrums if they really love their dresses!
Patterns for flower girl dresses are also lovely and can add a real pop of personality to a classically elegant day. I love traditional polka dots as much as I swoon for stripes and chevrons. Other crossovers from the grown-up world such as ruffles and coloured slips under patterned lace layers are also becoming more and more popular.
I think a real favourite style of mine right now has to be separates and flower girls look great in tops and skirts. The boho look is also up there on my list too and little girls in laid back dresses with unstyled, almost untamed, locks are just all kinds of adorable.
So, if you’re about to begin the hunt for the perfect flower girl dress, I wish you well – there’s so much to choose from but whatever you go for, you’re going to make a little girl’s day for sure.
